Paris Saint-Germain's Thiago Silva believes he's playing in his club's best-ever team. The Brazilian centre-back is also targeting winning this year's UEFA Champions League.
Speaking to French publication L'Equipe (h/t ESPN FC's Mark Rodden), Silva outlined how lifting European Football's marquee club prize remains his main ambition: "I want to leave PSG one day having won the Champions League. That's my biggest dream."
The 30-year-old ex-AC Milan man believes that goal can be reached during this campaign. He cites PSG's star-studded squad as the reason for his optimism: "There's so much quality that I think it's the best team that I've ever played in."
But to realise his dream, Silva knows his side will have to get past some difficult opponents, most notably, holders Barcelona, whom he ranks as still the best in Europe: "For me, Barcelona are at the top. Behind them there's Bayern Munich and Real Madrid and after that Manchester City, Chelsea and us."
Silva's buoyancy is understandable considering the embarrassment of riches PSG possess. Thanks to major investment, this is a squad that can count on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and mercurial pair Angel Di Maria and Javier Pastore in the forward areas.
The midfield is also brimming with talent, and it is bossed by brilliant powerhouse runner Blaise Matuidi.
PSG find themselves in Group A alongside 10-time European Cup winners Real Madrid. But given the level of investment and star power manager Laurent Blanc has at his disposal, the reigning French champions should make Silva's dream come true sooner rather than later.
