Free agent wide receiver Nick Toon is getting closer to full strength after suffering a high-ankle sprain while with the New Orleans Saints during the preseason. He should be one of the top options at the position as injury issues begin to mount around the league.

Toon to Work Out With Dallas Cowboys After Dez Bryant Injury
Tuesday, Sept. 15
Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site stated Toon is one of four receivers, along with Hakeem Nicks, Austin Pettis and Clyde Gates, that the team will bring in. Head coach Jason Garrett confirmed the team is looking for another wideout while Bryant recovers from a foot injury.
Toon appeared in 16 games over the past two seasons with the Saints after getting drafted in the fourth round in 2012. He missed his entire rookie campaign due to injury and failed to establish himself with the Saints once healthy, making just 21 catches and scoring a single touchdown.
New Orleans placed him on injured reserve after the preseason due to the ankle issue, but it later waived him after reaching an injury settlement.
The fact he's working out with the Cowboys suggests his health has improved, which is good news even if he doesn't land a contract in Dallas.
Toon features good size (6'4''), but he lacks speed and could never carve out a niche red-zone role for himself with the Saints. That's the void the Cowboys will be most looking to fill while Bryant, who's tallied 56 touchdowns in 76 games, is sidelined.
If he does sign with Dallas, there's a good chance he'll be thrust into action quickly. The team could certainly use more depth with Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley and Devin Street currently serving as quarterback Tony Romo's top three options on the outside.
