The Denver Broncos won but didn't impress much in their season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, and they've opened as betting underdogs at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark for their Week 2 matchup on Thursday night on the road against the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs.
The Broncos topped the Baltimore Ravens 19-13 and covered the spread as 4.5-point home favorites in Week 1, but they did it in spite of a weak performance from starting quarterback Peyton Manning, who threw for only 175 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception for an ugly QB Rating of 26.4 on the day.
Similarly, top Broncos running back C.J. Anderson was held to just 29 yards on the ground on his 12 carries.
Kansas City, meanwhile, picked up a 27-20 road win over the Houston Texans in their opener on the weekend, grabbing the straight-up and against-the-spread victories as quarterback Alex Smith threw for 243 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the contest.
For Thursday night the Chiefs opened as two-point home favorites against the Broncos at the sportsbooks, but that line quickly moved to make Kansas City a three-point favorite by the end of Monday. Kansas City is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games in the month of September, while Denver is 2-5 both SU and ATS in its last seven games as an underdog.
The Green Bay Packers opened as three-point favorites for their game against the Seattle Seahawks for Sunday night, but with Green Bay winning and Seattle losing in Week 1, that line then moved to make the Packers 3.5-point favorites. The Packers have paid out at 9-0 SU and 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games as home favorites, according to the OddsShark NFL Database.
And the final prime-time game of Week 2 saw the Indianapolis Colts open as 5.5-point home favorites against the New York Jets and then quickly move to seven-point favorites. Indianapolis suffered an upset loss as a road favorite in Buffalo in their Week 1 matchup.
Elsewhere, the Bills opened as 1.5-point home underdogs against the New England Patriots for their Week 2 meeting, but some sportsbooks had shifted that line to a pick'em by Monday night. The Dallas Cowboys, who have lost wide receiver Dez Bryant indefinitely with a fracture in his foot, opened as four-point road underdogs for their Week 2 matchup at the Philadelphia Eagles.
