Craig Sager, the longtime sideline reporter for Turner Sports famous for his unique taste in fashion, has said he plans on returning for the NBA season after undergoing chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant in July.
“I said, ‘The NBA season starts Oct. 27, what are my chances?,'" Sager said, recalling a conversation he had with his doctor, per Haley Hernandez of Click2Houston.com. "He goes, ‘Oh they’re good!' I said one more, ‘What about the Olympics next summer in Rio?’ He said, ‘No-brainer! I said yes! Yes!'”
Sager was diagnosed with leukemia in April of 2014, and the cancer returned this May, per SI.com. Though chemotherapy has taken a toll on Sager—he's lost his hair and 50 pounds—he isn't considering retirement anytime soon.
"I've got the greatest job in the world," Sager said. "It's not like I'm out in the sun digging ditches. I'm going to the greatest sporting events in the world."
Sager is a staple of Turner's NBA coverage and one of the longest-running and most respected sideline reporters in the business. His potential return to the court for this NBA season would be an excellent way to kick off the 2015-16 campaign and be welcomed by the NBA's players, coaches and fans alike.
