Colin Kaepernick Anquan Boldin Garrett Celek Post-Week 1 Fantasy Advice

You shouldn't have needed more convincing by now, but the San Francisco 49ers' Monday night game against the Minnesota Vikings was further evidence that Colin Kaepernick shouldn't be considered a QB1 in any sort of standard fantasy football league.

While the Niners won 20-3, Kaepernick didn't pour in the points. Here's a look at his total numbers:

ESPN Stats & Info noted a trend from earlier in the game:

Unless Jim Tomsula is considering radically altering the 49ers offense, there's little reason to expect the Colin Kaepernick of 2015 will be different than the Colin Kaepernick of 2013 and 2014. He's an efficient short- to mid-range passer, but he's not going to accumulate a high volume of passing yards and touchdowns.

The departure of Frank Gore opened up the possibility for San Francisco's passing game to have a larger role in the offense, but Carlos Hyde's 168 yards and two TDs on the ground against the Vikings put any end to that notion.

Because of Kaepernick and the 49ers' style in general, it's tough to get excited about any of the 49ers wideouts from a fantasy perspective. Anquan Boldin and Garrett Celek were among his top targets, and neither produced much of note:

Boldin may be one of the more attractive pass-catching options on San Francisco's roster, but that doesn't make him a great option for fantasy owners. He is a nice guy to have on the bench, but counting on Boldin to deliver on a weekly basis is risky.

When the 49ers match up against a poor defensive team, though, the veteran wide receiver could be a cost-effective daily fantasy target.

Celek was a pleasant surprise against Minnesota. As long as Vernon Davis is healthy, however, nights like this might be few and far between for Celek.

Monitor the 27-year-old over the course of the season to see if he gets a steady amount of passes. Maybe he'll become an emergency alternative on the waiver wire when you're in desperate need of a tight end. Like Boldin, he could also be somebody to look at for your daily fantasy team when you want to save money for more important positions.
