San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen tied a single-game franchise record with his 15 receptions in Sunday's 33-28 season-opening victory over the Detroit Lions, per the Chargers' official website.
The record was previously set in October 1984 by Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow, who caught 15 passes for 157 yards in a 34-28 win over the Green Bay Packers, per Pro-Football-Reference.com's play index.
Looking to bounce back from a disappointing sophomore campaign, Allen got off to a modest start Sunday afternoon as his team fell into an early 21-3 hole.
Despite catching just two passes in the first quarter, Allen ended up setting personal career-high marks for receptions and receiving yards (166), helping the Chargers score 30 consecutive points to take a 33-21 lead.
Allen mostly made his living on short and intermediate routes, with his long reception on the day going for just 21 yards.
Although he matched the receptions record, his 166 receiving yards were only good for 35th on the Chargers' single-game franchise list, per PFR's play index.
Of course, the Chargers obviously aren't complaining, as Allen caught 15 of his 17 targets for a catch rate of 88.2 percent.
He'll now look for his first touchdown of the season in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.
