Adrian Peterson Jerick McKinnon Matt Asiata Post-Week 1 Fantasy Advice

So maybe Adrian Peterson needs to shake off a little rust.

Considered by many to be the top fantasy football player going into the 2015 season, the Minnesota Vikings running back has struggled all night against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. His teammates in the backfield, Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata, haven't fared any better.

Peterson has 31 yards on 10 carries through three quarters Monday, while McKinnon and Asiata have 20 and four yards, respectively.

While San Francisco has done a good job of bottling up Peterson, ESPN.com's Ben Goessling doesn't think Minnesota's play-calling is doing him any favors:

If you don't have the six-time Pro Bowler on your team, it might be a good idea to sound out whoever in your league does for a potential trade. Maybe that owner will panic after a week and let Peterson go for a relatively low price.

For those who did start Peterson, the reasonable decision would be to stand pat and wait for him to turn things around. He's not going to be this bad many more times this year.

Peterson shouldn't be considered a must-start in daily fantasy leagues, though, as Monday night's game is evidence that the wrong matchup can lead to pedestrian numbers from one of the best backs in the league. That will be something to monitor as the year goes on.

Asiata and McKinnon, meanwhile, aren't worth adding to your team unless you're in an extremely deep or NFC-only league. Barring an injury to Peterson, neither back is going to get enough touches on a consistent basis to be a viable fantasy option.
